Introduction to Beekeeping in Finland, 2019 (Helsinki)

This course is an answer to increased demand of beekeeping courses in English targeted to amateur beekeepers and students of Perhon liiketalousopisto - Perho Culinary, Turism and Business College.

The course consists of five separate sessions (3 x 45 minutes each) and five visits to beehives.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Bee Colony and Role of bees as part of biodiversity
  • Biology of bee
  • Hive Types and Beekeeping Equipment
  • Pollination and Flowers in Finnish Nature and Gardens
  • Beekeeping Year in Finland
  • Products of Bee Hive
  • Keeping Bees in Finland and Obligations towards Finnish Authorities
  • Healthy Bees
  • Beekeeping Categories
  • Visits to Beehives (5)

The course is organised by ‘Stadin Tarhaajat ja Hunajafrendit’, which is the Local Organisation of the Finnish Beekeepers' Association (SML ry). 

At the beginning of year 2019 Stadin Tarhaajat is commencing co-operation with Perhon liiketalousopisto - Perho Culinary, Turism and Business College, Helsinki (Mechelininkatu 7).

The lectures are given by Maaret Virtanen, beekeeper and owner of PROMESI, a small company focusing mainly on services and products of beekeeping.

 The Course will be held at Perhon liiketalousopisto - Perho Culinary, Turism and Business College, Helsinki (Mechelininkatu 7) at 17.30 - 20 o’clock on the following dates
